UGM Corporate Communication Director Mr. Sami ALTINKAYA takes part in Dünya Newspaper with his article titled 'Getting Started…'

I would like to start my first article in the newspaper DÜNYA with the words of our founder Nezih Demirkent, “this profession is not for working the desk”. As an economics correspondent traveling all over Turkey for 25 years, it is a very great honor to write in DÜNYA with which I started my profession. The words of business person Haluk Ündeğer, "success is not possible without being on the field" also show that we are on the right track. I'll give you the good news from the work done every week in Turkey. Although Turkey’s being in a macro level crisis, value-added production firms manage to survive investing in companies based on technology. Integration with world economies is primarily based on using technology and producing. The fact that the number of firms using high technology is only 12 among the top 500 big firms in the Istanbul Chamber of Industry research is the biggest indicator of how the firms I will mention accomplish great works. If we will be a country that uses not only technology but also produces, we can find a way out. But there are some issues that never change.

It is very hard to find the right man for the job. Industry-university relationship is not as desired. Continuous system changes for the purpose of reforming in education, have created a generation that does not understand what it does reading. Organized industry regional administrations educate qualified people that they need. We try to find the problem in ourselves again. This should be a state policy and a permanent structure should be created that is not affected by government changes. Those who think Industry 4.0 will be successful without realizing Education 4.0 are fantasizing. If you train the generations that will use and produce high technology, you will create employment opportunities for your employees in an economic model in which robots make productions. Otherwise, unemployment will increase even more. For it is known, they act as if we are passing to Industry 4.0. Speaking of which, it would be more correct to say "wanted people" instead of "intermediate staff". The phrase "intermediate staff" also undervalues vocational training. But the phrase “wanted person” makes the person feel valuable. The world revolves around those who work with their mind today. If you continue to be stubborn using elbow grease, you can earn large revenues as a turnover, but you will have to give most of your profits to companies that use their mind. So, you work hard and earn less. This is why I will bring you together with those who invest in people, intelligence and science. It will only be possible for Turkey to increase the level of exports to its desired level by introducing goods and services manufactured by using mind to the world market. Welcome to a world where small but fast fish pass big fish. Not the strong ones, but the fit ones…
