A New Commercial Era Begins Between Türkiye and the EU

The Ministry of Commerce took action to improve relations with the EU. In the statement made by the Ministry, it was stated that a joint roadmap was agreed between Türkiye and the EU for the development of commercial and economic relations in the new period.

Trade Minister Ömer Bolat stated that in the online meeting, he held yesterday with Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice President of Trade of the European Commission, cooperation opportunities in developing and deepening trade relations between Türkiye and the EU were discussed. While the Ministry also stated that they are still debating what they can do to establish in-depth ties during the meeting, the Ministry emphasized that it is expected that the updated negotiations of the Customs Union will be started to develop relations between Türkiye and the EU and that the process will create a positive agenda between Türkiye and the EU.

To be held in Brussels in September

While the parties agreed in mutual negotiation, the Ministry of Trade said, "The meeting of the Trade Working Group to mutually resolve the problems encountered in the functioning of the Customs Union and to discuss the cooperation that will carry trade forward at the technical level, and also to meet again in Brussels at the end of September this year. It was agreed to meet. Within the scope of the Trade Working Group between Türkiye and the EU, we will discuss our current technical issues and cooperation opportunities before negotiations on the update of the Customs Union. Then we will be in close contact for a strong dialogue in all our trade areas."

Stating that forward-looking steps will be taken with the EU due to these meetings, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat said, “We had a very positive video conference meeting with the Vice President of the European Commission, Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis. During the meeting, we agreed on a joint roadmap for developing commercial and economic relations between Turkey and the EU in the new period.
